The "Good News"
The “Good News”
We here at Trinity Christian Fellowship exist for many wonderful purposes and the chiefest of those purposes is to tell you, our neighbor and member of our local community, and the whole world about the greatest news you could ever hear! This great news that we have to tell you is remarkably simple and it is this: God, the Almighty Creator of the universe and everything that our eyes can see, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of you and me…loves you! You and I, we are the apple of His eye, the most precious of all that He has created. Now while that may sound a little arrogant and prideful, it’s not…it’s a fact! How do we know this? Because God said so Himself in His Word, the Bible! In the Bible, in the book of Psalm, Chapter 8, the Psalmist writer, King David writes, “when I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.” Out of all of God’s creation, mankind is the only one made in the image of God! That just means that God made us to be like Him! He created into each one of us such beauty and such potential! But oh how sadly that beauty and potential has been corrupted. Corrupted, you might ask? Yes, the Bible tells us the story about how mankind, God’s most beautiful and precious creation was corrupted. Was it God who corrupted His own creation? Of course not! Then where did this corruption come from? In the Book of Genesis, Chapter 3, we learn that the first man and the first woman allowed themselves to become corrupted when they believed a lie and disobeyed God. What lie did they believe? God created the earth and in the midst of this new earth He created the most beautiful garden and there He created the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve. The Bible tells us that God Himself walked and talked with Adam and Eve in this garden, walked and talked with them! He provided for their every need, they had everything they could possibly need or want! God gave them only one request, to not eat fruit from just one tree. You see, God was testing His new creation. He wanted to see if Adam and Eve would love Him back by abiding by His request. And for a time they did. But then, one day, they were tempted by a serpent, the devil in disguise. It was the serpent who lied to them and told them that God was hiding something from them, that God was trying to keep them from being complete. Sadly, Adam and Eve both believed this lie and they decided, together, to eat fruit from the tree that God had asked them not to. In the moment that they ate the fruit from the tree, corruption entered into the heart, soul, and body of mankind, for all time. How was eating fruit from a tree corrupt, you might ask? It wasn’t eating fruit that brought corruption, it was the decision to go against the wishes of our good and loving Creator. You see, Adam and Eve decided to not believe what God had told them and they decided to believe someone else, someone who didn’t create them and who didn’t love them! This corruption is known as “sin”, or disobedience to the goodness of God. This corruption had the immediate effect of separating Adam and Eve from the physical presence of God forever. You see, God was forced to distance Himself from Adam and Eve because of this corruption. He could no longer walk and talk with them in the garden like He once did. This is why we can’t see God with our physical eyes today because He is enthroned in His kingdom, separated from us in a place outside of space and time, a place called “Heaven”. God is holy, without corruption, and therefore He cannot be in the physical presence of corruption. God hates corruption and desires to destroy it once and for all! God is so good and loving that when He became separated from man, ever since that moment He began to work to find a way to cleanse mankind from this corruption called sin. At just the right time, God Himself came to the earth in the form of a man, to live as one of us, to know what it was like to live in this world under the burdens of sin, sickness, disease, and strife, the burdens we carry around every day. This man was called “Yeshua” in Hebrew, for which the equivalent in English is “Joshua”. It’s a beautiful name with an amazing meaning. In the original Hebrew the name “Yeshua” means “the Lord saves”. Today, He is more commonly known by the Greek form of this name…Jesus. 2,000 years have passed since this man called Jesus walked the earth and billions of lives the centuries over have never been the same! What did this man do that was so important, so life-changing, so impactful to billions throughout centuries of human history? Simple. He laid down His own life to save us from the corruption in our hearts and lives. How did this man have the power to do that, you might ask? Again, the answer is simple. He was no ordinary man. He was man and He was God. Jesus was God “in the flesh” and as such He was holiness, He was perfection on display. You see, God came down to this earth in the form of a man so that He could live the perfect life that we fail to live and then He offered up His life as a sacrifice to pay the penalty for every wrong thing we have ever done, all of our corruption, so that we could be forgiven for all of our wrong-doing and our relationship with our loving Father and Creator God could be restored to the way it was in the garden at the beginning of our world. The Bible tells us that our corruption, it is our sin that has separated us physically from God and it has also separated us spiritually from God. This is why we feel alone and we are constantly searching for something in this world, whether it be food, money, drugs, sex, whatever it may be, to fill the void that is deep in our souls, the void that only a relationship with our God and Creator can fill! Because we have been separated from God in this manner, this is also the reason why our physical bodies are dying. One day, we all will face our own physical death when our bodies will no longer function, leaving our souls to carry on in the next life after this one. “Well, that’s fine with me, that just means I’ll get to leave this horrible world and go live with God in Heaven when I die”, you might say. But the sad truth is, remember, your sins have separated not only your body but also your soul from God. Therefore, when your physical body dies, your soul will not get to live in Heaven with God because of how filled with corruption, with sin it is. So where do we go then? The sad and unfortunate truth is there is another place outside of space and time other than Heaven. It is a terrifying place outside of the presence of God. Jesus said it was a place of torment. It is a place called “Hell” and it is the place that God has designated as the place for sin to be banished and punished for all eternity. God doesn’t want to punish us, His precious and most-loved creation, but because each of us have been corrupted by sin we cannot be in the presence of a holy and perfect God, in whom there is no corruption. God hates sin and is forced by His holiness and His love to destroy and punish sin. So that is why He created a place for sin to be cast out “into outer darkness” as Jesus put it. But, the “Good News” is that God, in His great love for us, has provided a way for each of us to be set free from our sin! It is through the precious and pure (without corruption) blood of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, God “in the flesh”, the blood that He shed when he allowed Himself to receive the punishment for our sin on a Roman cross 2,000 years ago, through this and this alone we can be forgiven, our sins and all of our corruption, can be washed away for all of eternity, and we can then be assured that we will have been restored to our proper place, in close relationship with the One who created us, our Heavenly Father, our loving and merciful and compassionate Creator God, and that we will spend eternity with Him in His kingdom forever! Do you know Him in this manner? Has your relationship with God been restored through the redemptive work of Jesus Christ in shedding His blood and giving His life for you on the cross? What He did, He did for you so that you could be forgiven for all of your wrongdoing and all of your sins could be washed away! If you wondering, “No, but how?”, the “Good News” is, again, simple. Believe that Jesus Christ is the one that God sent to save you, that Jesus is God “in the flesh” come down to earth to die for you and to take your punishment, that He rose from the grave three days later proving that He is God and that He alone has the power to save you, that He alone is the only hope for salvation from sin, and lastly, be sorry for your sins and willing to turn away from them with His help! If you believe these things and are sorry that you have sinned against God, the Bible says then to “call upon the name of the Lord” and then “you shall be saved”! What does it mean to “call upon the name of the Lord”? It means to simply talk to Him and ask Him with all of your heart to be your Savior, to save you, cleanse you, and forgive you of all your sins. If you believe and ask, then He will! It’s as simple as that! This is the “Good News”! If you believe and want Jesus to be your Savior, to save you from your sins and to forgive and cleanse you, right now, wherever you are, you can reach out to Him and talk to Him. Cry out to Him from the bottom of your heart and with all of your heart, believe and trust Him to save you, then ask Him to save you and then, He will! If you want to, you can use this prayer as a guide to help you:
“Lord Jesus, I need you. I know that I have sinned against you and I am sorry. I know I deserve to be punished for my sins but I also know that You loved me so much that You paid my penalty on the cross. You shed your blood and gave up your life so that my sins could be forgiven. I believe this and ask that You would do this for me. Please forgive me of all my sins, wash me in your blood, cleanse me from all of my corruption. I don’t want to die because of my sins and go to Hell. I want to live with You, starting now and forevermore in Your Kingdom called Heaven. Because You rose from the grave, now I can truly live for You! With Your help, I turn away from my sins and I give You my heart and all of my life from now on! Come into my heart and soul, be my Lord and Savior, forever! I love You because You first loved me! Thank You for saving me! Amen.”
